Poorest families spend 31% of income on keeping a car

The poorest families have to spend almost a third of their income just to remain mobile, the RAC has warned.
The least well-off car-owning households spent at least 31 per cent of their disposable incomes on buying and running a vehicle in 2012, it said, up from 27 per cent the year before.
The warning came as experts revealed motorists could face paying almost £200 a year more for petrol when a new green fuel is introduced in line with EU rules.
