The viral growth effect of a carpooling network driven by the allocation of parking to multiple occupancy vehicles. Our continued analysis of users’ smartphone data reveals that, not only is this carpooling community growing, but that individuals connect with multiple passengers and drivers within the platform allowing them the flexibility to travel at different times with different people. Once users start using the platform they quickly form the connections required to ensure they can travel when they wish.
This data proves that the right incentive can create a flexible, reliable, long-term transportation network. Existing resources, ie employees, can be co-opted and optimised to provide a real-time, accessible transport network for the benefit of all. Further proof that, where parking is scarce, reserved parking as incentive creates a shared transportation network of co-workers.
