University of Essex launches Faxi journey sharing social networks

A number of NHS Trusts launch Faxi journey sharing groups

Bristol City Council hosts Faxi launch event to promote journey sharing across the city, see below a copy of its press release:

Faxi – New Journey Sharing Scheme

You are invited to attend the launch of FAXI at the Engine Shed, Temple Meads, on Friday February 6th 2015

Faxi is a journey-sharing app that encourages people, who know each other and who regularly travel in the same direction, to share their journey in order to reduce congestion and open up more travel options for everyone.

Bristol City Council has acquired the Faxi software to help businesses in Clifton, and other employers across the city, to set up their own journey-sharing groups to encourage more sustainable travel and help ease the journey to work, particularly in areas where travel options are limited or where Residents’ Parking Schemes (RPS) are in operation.

Faxi, a free, map-based app, allows journey-sharing groups to be set up in workplaces, schools and other community groups (e.g. sports clubs). Anyone can set up a group and invite friends and colleagues to join to begin sharing journeys.

And it’s not limited to car sharing- it allows users to select whether they are a walker, cyclist, public transport user or driver and what mode of journey sharing they are looking for. This multi-modal option is different to other car sharing platforms. Another difference is that Faxi includes an option to invite people solely from your own organisation, which can help to overcome initial resistance by some staff to sharing journeys with people they have not previously met.

Clifton High School recently began using Faxi in preparation for the introduction of the RPS in Clifton Village in March. Permits to park on street will be limited and Faxi provides a way for them to identify colleagues travelling in the same direction to car share (and share permits) or travel together by public transport or cycling or walking.

Guy Cowper from Clifton High School said: “Clifton High School is well known as a dynamic organisation that’s responsive to change. We have been the first to respond positively to the Faxi service and see this as the best way of helping colleagues plan their journeys more effectively and sustainably.”

Faxi will be launched during Digital Bristol Week at a training event at the Engine Shed, supported by Bristol University’s Business School, aimed at the creative industries. Travel advisors will be on hand to explain how the scheme works and how it can benefit businesses by helping employees with their journey to work. Please come along to find out more, or if you cannot make it and want to know how Faxi can benefit your business, contact Jacob Pryor on 0117 9036847.

The Faxi system is open to all to use for free – you can start today here.
