Faxi has been contracted by Northamptonshire to connect co-workers who can start sharing their commute to work, incentivised by smartphone-enabled reserved parking on site.
The project has been received positively by users, so Faxi has now been asked to communicate and administer the new park-and-ride at Northampton Saints Rugby Club. The Faxi app has been upgraded to extend its functionality to include auto payment, access and the provision of a digital bus ticket.
Northamptonshire County Council employees will soon be able connect, rideshare, park and pay through one smartphone application experience. Subject to success and user feedback, the app can be further developed to provide personalised daily transportation advice. Negotiations are ongoing to encourage other large organisations commuting to Northampton to adopt similar policies and technology.
The creation of a smartphone-enabled private commuter network which encourages shared paid transportation will be the ideal launch environment for driverless cars as and when they arrive.
Tony Ciaburro, Corporate Director for PLACE Commissioning in Northampton comments:
„As we continue to move steadily towards autonomous vehicles the whole notion of car ownership and car use will need to evolve and change. The technology and approach to this that is being developed by Faxi has got to be central to this evolution”.
The basic functionality of Faxi is now available to all, with any organisation now able to encourage the creation of a private commuter network where those commuters ridesharing can automatically be allocated reserved parking.
